This Privacy Policy explains how GuardPI handles information when you visit GuardPI.com or contact GuardPI. GuardPI is independently owned and operated by Aaron Westley.
Information you provide through the contact form
When you use the GuardPI contact form, you may provide your name, email address, the topic of your enquiry, a subject line and the message you choose to send. GuardPI uses that information to review and respond to your enquiry, including questions, factual corrections, source updates, accessibility requests, privacy requests and partnership enquiries.
The GuardPI contact workflow sends the submitted message to GuardPI by email. The plugin does not create a visitor account or intentionally store the submitted message as a public or searchable WordPress record. The receiving mailbox and its email service may retain the message and related email metadata according to the mailbox settings and service provider practices.
Spam prevention and rate limiting
The contact form uses a hidden anti-spam field, a WordPress security token and a short-lived rate-limit check. For the rate-limit check, the workflow creates a salted one-way hash derived from technical request information, which can include the submitting IP address and email address. That temporary key is used to slow repeated submissions and is scheduled to expire after about one minute. GuardPI does not intentionally save the raw IP address in a separate contact-message database through this workflow.
Standard technical information
Like most websites, GuardPI may receive standard technical information through its web host, server, security tools or WordPress environment. This can include information such as IP address, browser or device details, requested URLs, timestamps and error or security logs. Such information may be processed for site delivery, reliability, troubleshooting, security and abuse prevention.
Cookies and similar technologies
WordPress and the site’s hosting or security environment may use cookies or similar technologies that are necessary for administration, security or site functionality. Third-party services, embedded content, analytics or advertising tools can have their own data practices if they are enabled on the site. GuardPI should update this policy when a new service materially changes what information is collected or how it is used.
How GuardPI uses personal information
- To respond to messages and requests.
- To review factual corrections and source updates.
- To respond to accessibility, privacy or partnership enquiries.
- To protect the contact form and website from spam, abuse and security threats.
- To maintain reasonable business records when a message needs follow-up.
- To comply with applicable legal obligations or protect legal rights when necessary.
How information may be shared
GuardPI does not sell personal information submitted through the contact form. Information may be processed by service providers that are necessary to operate the site and email workflow, such as the website host, email provider, security provider or other technical service providers. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect GuardPI, users or the integrity of the website.
Third-party and affiliate links
GuardPI articles may link to insurers, regulators, government websites and other third-party resources. If GuardPI later uses a compensated commercial link, it is identified under GuardPI’s disclosure practices. Once you leave GuardPI, the destination site controls its own privacy practices. Read that site’s privacy policy before providing personal information there.
For more information about compensated links, see the Affiliate Disclosure.
How long information is kept
GuardPI keeps contact correspondence only as long as reasonably necessary to respond, maintain appropriate business records, resolve disputes, protect the website or meet legal obligations. The short-lived rate-limit key used by the GuardPI contact workflow is scheduled to expire after about one minute. Email providers, hosts and security services may apply their own retention periods to records they process.
Your choices and privacy requests
You may contact GuardPI to ask about personal information you previously submitted, or to request correction or deletion where applicable. Some information may need to be retained when required for security, legal compliance, dispute resolution or legitimate recordkeeping. Privacy rights can vary by jurisdiction.
Children’s information
GuardPI is a general consumer insurance publication and the contact form is not designed to solicit personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through the site, contact GuardPI so the situation can be reviewed.
Security
GuardPI uses reasonable administrative and technical measures for the site and contact workflow, but no website, email system or internet transmission can be guaranteed completely secure.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when GuardPI changes its website features, contact workflow, service providers or data practices. The updated date at the top of the page indicates the version currently published.
